| Additional Notes |
This tender was preserved with BR number 65033 (LNER class J21), previously NER C class no 876 0-6-0. The last known tender coupled to 65033 was no. 8060 but to date it has not been able to confirm if this is the identity of this tender. It was purchased for preservation at Beamish Museum by Durham County Council in 1968. In March 2009 ownership was transferred to the Locomotive Conservation and Learning Trust who intended to restore the engine and tender to working order after many years of disuse. Locomotive and tender were transferred to Locomotive Maintenance Services at Loughborough in June 2019 where dismantling and assessment took place. By late October 2019 the tank had been removed from the frames, it was known prior to overhaul that the tank would have to be replaced. Investigation of the frames showed that these were beyond repair and this was announced on Facebook by the LCLT in late November 2019 by which time the frames had been dismantled to their component parts. Some parts of the original tender were retained for reuse in a new build tender including brake gear, axleboxes, horns, spring hangers, steps, buffers, stretchers between inner and outer frames and wheelsets (though one has a new axle). A new record has be created in the Tender Register for this new build tender. |
