After withdrawal from BR service in the early 1960's the tank was removed and a body built on the chassis. This incorporated equipment to test Southern Region DEMU engines at Eastleigh Works where it was known as Test Unit No.3. Purchased for preservation circa 2003/2004. Test equipment and body removed in 2005. Tank mounted on chassis in 2010. When bought for preservation this was thought to be tender 3214 and it was often referred to by this number in magazine articles until about mid 2013. |
