Tender built by the LBSCR. Original tank had a water capacity of 2420 or 2600 gallons, a well tank was later fitted increasing capacity. In the 1950's BR removed the LBSCR tank and fitted a tank from a LSWR tender which was shortened slightly. The capacity of the LSWR tanks was originally 3500 gallons , it isn't known if the shortening involved the water tank itself or just the front end beyond the tank. Taken into departmental service in November 1962 as a water carrier. Condemned December 1979 and sold to Woodham Bros, Barry. Resold and modified to represent a GWR Dean tender and attached to the non working replica of the GWR Dean Single 3041 The Queen at Madame Tussauds Museum at Windsor. After closure of the museum it was cut up on site. Exact date of scrapping not known but thought to be late 1990's. Wheelsets and axleboxes were saved for use with Billinton tender 424 (q.v.) |
