| Notes | This tender arrived at Woodham Bros, Barry with LMS 8F class 2-8-0 no. 48173. After sale with 45163 the loco and tender were initially stored at Hull Dairycoates depot from 1987-1991 and during this time the tank was removed from the chassis. After purchase by 45163 Ltd the chassis was moved to the Colne Valley Railway and the tank to another site. The tank was returned to the Colne Valley Railway in October 2023 and was cut up between November 2023 and January 2024 with useable parts being retained. The tender number was found stencilled on the left handside of the frames, this was one of a batch built by the GWR at Swindon in World War Two. Confirmation of this also comes from the GWR lamp irons fitted and GWR cast in to the water scoop bevel gear housing. A new welded tank will be fitted in due course with water capacity increased to 4750 gallons. The chassis requires a new front dragbox and possibly new inner frames. It is not intended to refit the water scoop.The owning group announced in July 2024 that the locomotive will be restored and operated by Riley and Son (E) Ltd while 45163 Ltd will retain ownership. The loco moved to Riley & Son at Heywood in September 2024. The restoration of the tender chassis is taking place at the Colne Valley Railway though it is expected that Riley & Son will build the new tank |
