Notes | Taken into departmental service as a snowplough in February 1960. Apart from the removal of the plough this tender is unchanged from departmental service and tank has not been replaced since preservation. Various sources quote its use as an oil carrier but the evidence for this is unclear as inspection has shown the filler is welded shut and there is no associated pipework for filling or emptying it. Originally intended for use with proposed new build LNER B17 class 4-6-0 number 61673 but the owning group now intend to use tender 4166 (q.v.) so tender 7163 is spare. This is one of three tenders owned by The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust. |
